The installation and configuration of Fender Systems often adhere to standardized body dimensions and corresponding front panel sizes, with larger front plates typically utilizing a two-cell-one-panel or three-cell-one-panel configuration, either horizontally or vertically. However, the adoption of a low-reaction-force, high-energy-absorbing single-cell design with an oversized front panel in this project presented significant challenges, requiring careful planning and engineering adjustments.
SME, renowned for its innovative breakthroughs in rubber fendering and bollard systems, embraced this challenge head-on. Our relentless pursuit of technological advancements and personalized designs ensures we cater to the diverse needs of our clients.

Project Highlights
- Breakthrough Design of Single-Cell fender with a large Front Panel Design
In response to the project’s stringent requirements for enhanced protection, SME engineers utilized simulation technology to model berthing scenarios. They also constructed a 3D finite element model of the Fender system. Through these simulations, they analyzed the stress distribution and deformation of the front panel under various operating conditions.
Based on comprehensive evaluation, they extended the collision board length from 2.6 meters to 4.8 meters and adjusted the width from 2 meters to 2.4 meters. This resulted in a front panel area of 12.48 square meters. Additionally, the steel structure was reinforced to meet the project’s unique performance requirements and safety standards.
- Enhanced Fender Body Performance
The Fender system adopted a low-reaction-force, high-energy-absorbing design, surpassing traditional fender capabilities. Furthermore, SME refined and optimized the rubber formulation through rigorous sampling and testing. As a result, every fender system produced met high-performance standards for reliability and efficiency.
- Comprehensive Upgrade of Chain System
In addition to extending the front panel and optimizing the fender formula, SME’s team meticulously designed and upgraded the chain system. Two shear chains were added to ensure smooth operation and reliable connections under complex working conditions.
- Rigorous Process from Design to Delivery
From design and production to testing and delivery, SME’s team consistently upholds the highest levels of responsibility and professionalism. At every stage, stringent quality control is applied. All work adheres to the PIANC 2002 Fender Guidelines. This ensures timely delivery and exceptional project outcomes.
