Roller Fenders

SME’s Roller berthing fenders  are widely used at berth corners, dock entrances, and around dry docks and other enclosed waterways. They effectively guide vessels and mitigate hull damage.

The wheel component of Roller fenders is mounted securely on a fixed axle, supported by a specialized frame, allowing it to rotate freely as the ship’s hull comes into contact or slides alongside it. Roller fenders harmoniously integrate substantial energy absorption capabilities with minimal reaction forces across all berthing angles.

Features

  • Excellent energy dissipation capabilities and minimal rolling friction.

  • Adaptable for standalone or stacked configurations, equipped with durable composite and stainless steel bearings.

  • Designed with a low-maintenance housing for durability and long-lasting use.

What makes us different

Compression deformation can reach 40%.

Advanced hollow rubber roller technology allows the roller to move and absorb greater energy when in contact.

The support steel frame can be customized at multiple angles

Roller fenders, also called wheel fenders, are a specialized type of marine fender. They absorb impact energy not only through the deformation of the rubber wheels but also by allowing the wheels to rotate. This dual mechanism efficiently disperses collision forces, reducing stress on both the vessel hull and the dock structure.

SME’s roller berthing fenders come in various sizes and configurations, including single-wheel, double-wheel, or multi-wheel combinations. The hollow design of the wheels enhances energy absorption, while rotation reduces friction and wear. Nylon sleeves on the axles further improve durability and ensure smooth operation under harsh marine conditions.

Berthing fenders

Roller fenders consist of a steel frame, rubber wheels, and axle assemblies. The rubber wheels can also have a cylindrical design to enlarge the contact area with the ship hull. This structure efficiently absorbs impact energy and protects both vessels and dock structures.

All designs follow international standards for safety and durability, including the Code of Practice for Design of Fendering and Mooring Systems: BS 6349: Part 4 (2014).
